I’m Rob Landry. For more than 20 years, I’ve run a web development business, Pemaquid Communications, out of Portland, Maine. In the spring of 2020 I decided to put all my Earthly possessions in storage and hike the Appalachian Trail. I walked 1963 miles from Georgia to Maine before injuring my thigh 230 miles short of my goal, the summit of Mt. Katahdin.
Hiking during the pandemic was a truly epic experience filled with a unique set of challenges. I met some wonderful people and learned a lot about myself and the ability of the human spirit to endure. Some day, I will finish the Trail. I may even start at the beginning to finally walk it end to end.
While recuperating from my injury at a relative’s home, I stumbled onto the #vanlife culture. I decided to borrow from my savings to buy a Mercedes Sprinter van and convert it into a home on wheels. I plan to travel the country, living rent-free, continuing the nomadic life I began on Springer Mountain as the coronavirus pandemic was just beginning to wreak its havoc on the world.
This blog is a space where I can post my humble observations of the world, free from the constraints on communication imposed by social media apps.
